Hi All:

Several items of interest:

-- The Elbert County Planning Commission will be meeting on
Thursday, January 24th at 7 PM to continue discussion of the proposed oil and gas regulations and the proposed memorandum of understanding for Elbert County. The meeting is currently scheduled to be held in the BOCC chambers in the county administration building in Kiowa. We would encourage your attendance so you are aware of pending issues that will directly affect oil exploration in Elbert County.

-- Water is a related subject when dealing with oil and gas development. It is estimated that EACH fracking operation will consume 3 million to 5 million gallons of water--some will be new water and some could be reclaimed water from previous fracks.
The important thing is that it will impact the overall water table and supply regardless of how much each fracking operation consumes. With that in mind, an article from the "High Country News" addressing the issue that "average" snowpack and water levels will be less in future years is of interest.......

-- We all want as much scientific evidence as possible regarding the environmental impacts of oil and gas development in order to make informed decisions. A story in the Boulder Daily Camera highlights a study at CU which offers such information as it impacts the ozone level in Erie--good information which may lead jurisdictions to be able to tighten air quality regulations based on science.......

As always, stay informed and be active--it is only with your direct involvement that your views will be known.
